Wyeth Pharmaceuticals having its current corporate headquarters at
Madison, New Jersey, the United States of America was earlier known
as American Home Products-AHP. The company is one of the largest
pharmaceutical companies in the world having its pharmaceutical
division comprising the majority of Wyeth’s revenues and profits
which is managed from Collegeville, Pennsylvania the suburb of
Philadelphia in the United States. The company is well known for
manufacturing the OTC products like Robitussin and the analgesic
Advil – Ibuprofen besides the prescription drugs like Premarin and
Effexor both of which contribute more than $3 billion in sales per
annum.
Initially in the year 1860, a drugstore was opened by the
pharmacists named John and Frank Wyeth with small research
laboratory. However, on the suggestions of some doctors during 1862,
they started manufacturing large quantities of commonly ordered
medicines. They got great success in that and in 1864, they started
supplying medicines and beef extracts to the Union army during the
Civil War. The company has more than 51,000 employees today. Wyeth
today is precisely a group of companies with member companies like
Wyeth Consumer Healthcare which was earlier known as
Whitehall-Robins Consumer Healthcare operating in over 65 nations
and has the 5th largest OTC health products in the world.
Wyeth Pharmaceuticals which was earlier Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories is
the original company which was established by the Wyeth Brothers
known as John Wyeth & Brother focusing on the research, development
and marketing of the prescription drugs. This pharmaceutical
division is further categorized into five sub-divisions: Wyeth
Research, Prescription Products, Biotech, Vaccines and Nutritionals.
