The branded medicine Effexor is an anti-depressant drug of the
serotonin norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor-SNRI class first
designed, developed, manufactured and distributed by the world’s
one of the largest pharmaceutical corporations known as Wyeth
during 1993. The drug has been made by using Venlafaxine as its
basic active pharmaceutical ingredient. However, because of the
suspected side effects and distrust that Effexor-Venlafaxine may
radically enhance the risk of suicide, it is not recommended as
the first line treatment of depression disorder. Anyway, the

Effexor-Venlafaxine is the prescription drug and basically used
for treating the depression, generalized anxiety disorder,
social anxiety disorder and panic disorders in the adult
patients. In the multiple double blind clinical studies the drug
was shown to be effective for depression. It appears to have the
similar efficacy or little better than Sertraline and Fluoxetine
based on the criteria and rating scales used. The higher doses

Effexor-Venlafaxine is distributed in the pentagon shaped peach
colored tablets of 25mg, 37.5mg, 50mg, 75mg and 100mg strengths.
While its Extended-Release-ER version is distributed in the
capsule forms with strengths of 37.5mg in gray-peach, 75mg in
peach and 150mg in brownish red colors.
The generic drug is available in the United States as of August
2006 and in Canada as of December 2006 while the generic from of
the drug’s ER version is available in Canada as of January 2007
and will become available in the United States by the year 2010.
